What type of UCC filings can be made online?
Intial Financing Statement (UCC-1) and Financing Statement Amendment (UCC-3 )may be filed electronically through SCC eFile.

What payment methods are accepted?
Checks and cash are accepted in the Clerk’s Office (please do not mail cash). Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express and eChecks are accepted electronically through SCC eFile. The Office of the Clerk’s third-party payment processor assesses a convenience fee for electronic payments.

What is the convenience fee?
The convenience fee is a nominal processing fee charged by our secured third-party payment processor when payment of a UCC Filing fee is made electronically through SCC eFile. A convenience fee of 2.4% for credit card payments ($1.00 minimum) or $2.00 for eCheck payments will be charged by our payment processor if you choose to file online. http://www.scc.virginia.gov/clk/uccfile.aspx

Can UCC filings be viewed online?
Only the UCC Search database is available online. A UCC document filed electronically through SCC eFile can be viewed online by the account holder who filed the document.

What documentation does the Clerk’s Office return to a customer who files a UCC statement?
A receipt letter is returned. A stamped copy of the statement will be returned with the receipt letter if one is provided by the filer.

Does the index of UCC filings also include Tax Liens filing?
UCC and Tax Lien searches can be performed as separate or combined searches.

How can one obtain a copy of a UCC document?

A UCC document filed electronically through SCC eFile can be retrieved by the account holder who filed the document through eFile transaction history.

Before ordering a copy, is it possible to determine how many pages are in a filed UCC statement?
A search report may be ordered to determine how many pages are in a filed statement. The cost of a search report is $7.00. Limited information about filings is available by contacting the Clerk’s Office Call Center at (804) 371-9733 or toll-free in Virginia 1-866-722-2551.

What information is returned with the results from a UCC search? How can this information be obtained?
A search report includes the date of the search, the search criteria, number of records found, the type of search performed and data about the filing chains found. Filing chain data includes the initial file number, debtor name(s), secured party name(s) and any associated subsequent filings. http://www.scc.virginia.gov/clk/ufcopy.aspx
